Rafael Jodar is showing a clear winning mentality and is in terrific form right now. After reaching the final in Washington two weeks ago, he is now on the verge of reaching another final in Montreal, doing so on his first appearance at the tournament. His confidence and current level make him the more appealing option against Brandon Nakashima.

Nakashima is a strong hard-court player and his serve should allow him to hold plenty of games, potentially making at least one set very tight.

Jodar Looks To Continue His Breakthrough Run

  • Rafael Jodar has a 2–1 record in tour-level semifinals.
  • He has a 5–2 career record against American opponents on tour.
  • Brandon Nakashima has a 1–3 record in tour-level semifinals in 2026.
  • He has a 4–5 record against Top 20 players in 2026.

Jodar Targets First Masters Final

Rafael Jodar has continued his incredible rise this season and reached his first Masters 1000 semifinal after defeating Arthur Fils in straight sets, 7-6, 6-3. This is his seventh quarterfinal-or-better result in his last eight events, showing how quickly his level has improved in recent months.

The Spaniard had already made a major breakthrough by winning his maiden tour-level title in Marrakech and reaching the final in Washington. These results have helped him break into the top 20, while his run in Montreal has pushed him even higher in the rankings.

Jodar now has the opportunity to reach his first Masters 1000 final. After defeating Jiri Lehecka and Arthur Fils in Montreal, he will be looking to continue his excellent momentum against another strong hard-court opponent.

This is his fourth tour-level semifinal of his career. He has won two of his previous three, with his only loss coming against Arthur Fils in Barcelona a few months ago.

Nakashima Chases His Biggest Masters Result

Brandon Nakashima reached his first Masters 1000 semifinal after defeating Luciano Darderi 6-2, 6-3 in the quarterfinals. It is also his best result at the Canadian Open, after previously reaching the round of 16 five times at Masters 1000 level.

The American has been in strong form during the North American swing. He recently reached the semifinal in Washington, where he defeated defending champion Alex de Minaur before losing to Taylor Fritz.

Nakashima has also been particularly consistent when reaching the latter stages this season. Before Montreal, he had reached four quarterfinals and converted all four into semifinals, including his run in Washington.

This will be a major opportunity for the 25-year-old to reach his first Masters 1000 final. He has played four semifinals this year and, apart from his final run in Brisbane, has lost his last three matches at this stage.

Verdict

Jodar's current form gives him the edge, but Nakashima's serving ability could force a close set. Backing Rafael Jodar to win and a tiebreak to be played in the match.
