Tien Looks to Extend His Winning Streak
Learner Tien continued his impressive Montreal campaign by defeating Daniel Merida Aguilar in comfortable straight sets, 6-3, 6-2, to reach his first Masters 1000 semifinal. He lost his serve once and converted four of the eight break points he created during the match.
He has now won his last three matches in straight sets this week, including his earlier victory over Tommy Paul, after arriving with some disappointing results in his previous events.
The 20-year-old has already produced several impressive results this season, including quarterfinals at the Australian Open and Indian Wells, the title in Geneva and the semifinal in Delray Beach. His run in Montreal gives him another opportunity to add a major result at Masters level.

Shelton Eyes Another Masters Final
Ben Shelton continued his title defense in dominant fashion by defeating Jakub Mensik 6-3, 6-1 to reach his second consecutive semifinal at the Canadian Open. He finished the quarterfinal with 18 winners and only three unforced errors, underlining how well he performed in the match.
The American has now won nine consecutive matches at the Canadian Open and remains unbeaten at the tournament since lifting the title last year. His four straight-set victories this week have also been a big improvement after 10 of his previous 11 matches before Montreal had gone the distance.
