Brandon Nakashima opened his ATP campaign with a dominant straight-set win over Elias Ymer, extending his unbeaten record in first-round matches of ATP events in 2026.
He reached the final in Brisbane last month, but results since then have been more modest. Nakashima fell in the second round in Dallas to Taylor Fritz and again exited in the second round in Delray Beach last week against Coleman Wong.
He still needs a couple of wins this week to fully recoup the points from last year’s Acapulco run. Nakashima reached the semifinals here in 2025 with a win over Holger Rune, which remains his best result at the event across four appearances.
