Ruud Survives Epic Madrid Battle
Casper Ruud survived a major scare against Stefanos Tsitsipas to reach the semifinals in Madrid, winning 6-7, 7-6, 7-6. He trailed 3-5 in the deciding set and saved two match points before completing a dramatic comeback.
This is his third quarterfinal appearance in Madrid, and he has now converted all of them into semifinal runs. He previously achieved this by defeating Alexander Bublik in 2021 and Daniil Medvedev in 2025 at this stage.
The Norwegian arrived under pressure with significant ranking points to defend but has handled it impressively so far. He produced dominant wins earlier in the week against Jaume Munar and Alejandro Davidovich Fokina, and now looks to carry that momentum further.
Ruud holds a 9-5 record in Masters quarterfinals, including an excellent 7-1 record on clay. His only loss at this stage on the surface came against Jannik Sinner in Rome last year.

Blockx Breaks Through On Big Stage
Alexander Blockx reached his maiden tour-level quarterfinal by defeating three strong opponents this week, including Felix Auger-Aliassime and Francisco Cerundolo, both in straight sets.
The 21-year-old has been steadily rising since last year. He earned his first tour-level win in Cincinnati and then registered multiple wins on tour for the first time in Monte Carlo a few weeks ago by reaching the round of 16. Now, he has gone a step further with a quarterfinal run in Madrid.
These results will push him into the top 50 in the rankings next week. Remarkably, he has won nine tour-level matches in his career so far, and seven of those victories have come at Masters events.
Blockx has also been very consistent on the Challenger circuit, reaching nine quarterfinals since last year and winning seven of them, including all three this season. He will look to draw confidence from those results to continue his run this week.
