Casper Ruud arrived at the French Open after playing three consecutive weeks of tennis between Rome and Geneva, and the physical impact of that schedule was clearly visible in his opening-round match. He barely survived against Roman Safiullin in five sets and even suffered a bagel set loss during the contest, which raises clear concerns about his current physical condition.

Medjedovic Seeks Statement Win

  • Casper Ruud holds a 6–2 second-round record at the French Open.
  • He owns a 10–4 record against players outside the Top 50 this year.
  • Hamad Medjedovic has a 1–1 second-round record in Grand Slams.
  • He holds a 4–12 career record against Top 20 players.

Ruud Overcomes Physical Struggles

Casper Ruud survived a grueling five-set encounter against Roman Safiullin in the opening round at the French Open, winning 6-2, 7-6, 5-7, 0-6, 6-2. After taking the opening two sets, his level dropped because of the heat and cramps, leaving him barely able to move at one stage before recovering strongly to close out the match.

The Norwegian produced mixed results during the first three months of the season, but once the clay swing began he rediscovered his rhythm with deep runs in consecutive events, including a final in Rome, a semifinal in Geneva and a quarterfinal appearance in Madrid.

Ruud has already matched his total clay-court win count from last season. Despite the recent fitness concerns, he still enters the second round with strong momentum and confidence built during the clay campaign.

After suffering a second-round loss in Paris last year, Ruud now has a good opportunity to improve his ranking with another deep run. He currently owns a solid 6-2 career record in second-round matches at Roland Garros.

Medjedovic Carries Winning Form Forward

Hamad Medjedovic defeated Yannick Hanfmann in four sets to reach the second round at the French Open, winning 6-3, 6-4, 6-7, 6-4. He fired 13 aces and saved five of the six break points he faced during the match.

The 22-year-old Serbian recently achieved a career-high ranking of No. 56 after producing several notable results on clay. He has won 14 of his last 17 matches on the surface, highlighted by a title at the Naples Challenger, a semifinal run in Barcelona and a fourth-round appearance at the Rome Masters.

Medjedovic has reached the second round at Grand Slam level only twice before. He advanced to the third round here in Paris last year but lost at this stage earlier this season at the Australian Open.

Verdict

Considering those circumstances, there appears to be plenty of value on Hamad Medjedovic here. If Medjedovic can keep the rallies and points short, he stands a very strong chance in this matchup. Backing Medjedovic to win, along with Medjedovic to win in three sets and four sets, all look like appealing options.
