Norwegian Continues Strong Clay Season
Casper Ruud had a much easier day in the second round, defeating Hamad Medjedovic 6-3, 6-2, 7-6. The Norwegian struggled with heat issues and cramps during his first-round win over Roman Safiullin, but there were no such concerns this time.
This is Ruud's seventh third-round appearance at Roland Garros. He lost his first three matches at this stage but turned things around in recent years, reaching back-to-back finals in 2022 and 2023 before making the semifinals in 2024.
The Norwegian had an uneven start to the season, suffering early exits in three of his first six tournaments. Since the clay swing began, however, he has won at least two matches in all four clay events he has played, including a final in Rome and a quarterfinal in Madrid.
Ruud holds a 7-5 record in Grand Slam third-round matches and has won six of his last seven at this stage. His last defeat in a third-round major match came against Cameron Norrie at the Australian Open in 2024.

Paul Continues Strong Week in Paris
Tommy Paul moved into the third round at Roland Garros after defeating Lorenzo Sonego 6-3, 6-2, 6-4. Earlier in the week, he recovered from a set down to beat Rinky Hijikata in the opening round.
This is only Paul's third appearance in the third round at the French Open. In his most recent visit to this stage, he lost in four sets to Francisco Cerundolo in 2024.
The American has produced steady results throughout the season, but early exits in Madrid and Rome saw him slip outside the Top 20 rankings. Those results interrupted what had otherwise been a solid campaign.
Paul regained some of that lost ground with a semifinal run in Geneva last week and has carried that form into Paris. With quarterfinal points to defend at Roland Garros, another strong result this week would be valuable for his ranking.
