Daniel Merida Aguilar is in excellent form right now, having won his maiden ATP title in Umag last month and recently reaching the quarter-finals in Montreal. This surge in momentum, confidence and form should be enough to offset any potential fatigue and give him a considerable edge over Zizou Bergs.

Merida Aguilar Seeks A Third Masters Third-Round Appearance

  • Merida Aguilar has a 2–0 record in second-round matches at Masters events.
  • He has a 6–5 record against Top 50 players in 2026.
  • Bergs has cleared the opening round in seven of his last nine Masters events.
  • He has a 12–8 record against players outside the Top 50 this year.

Daniel Merida Aguilar Keeps His Breakthrough Run Going

Daniel Merida Aguilar continued his rise as he defeated Marin Cilic from a set down to reach the second round in Cincinnati, 3-6, 6-1, 6-1. He fired nine aces and saved four of the five break points he faced.

The Spaniard has posted impressive results on tour this year, winning the title in Umag, reaching the final in Bucharest, the quarterfinals in Montreal and the third round in Madrid.

These results helped him secure his top-40 debut in the live rankings, and he will now be looking to continue his resurgence in recent weeks.

Zizou Bergs Looks to Rediscover His Best Form

Zizou Bergs has struggled to produce consistent results this year and recently faced early exits in Washington and Toronto.

He has played 13 events this year and registered multiple main-draw wins only three times, notably winning the title in Eastbourne, reaching the third round at Wimbledon and the fourth round in Monte Carlo.

He is now making his second main-draw appearance in Cincinnati. Last year, he made his debut but lost in the second round, and he will be looking for a better result this week.

Verdict

Merida Aguilar's current form and confidence make him difficult to oppose, even with the potential fatigue factor after his deep run in Montreal. He should be able to maintain his high level and take advantage of Bergs' limitations. Backing Daniel Merida Aguilar to win and to win in straight sets.
