Dominic Stricker is still a long way short of full fitness and has struggled to stay healthy, even retiring from a Challenger match earlier this month. However, the Swiss left-hander remains an immensely talented player, and with home support behind him, he has enough quality to make a fast start before any physical issues begin to take their toll.

A Home Favourite Faces A Tough Test

  • Dominic Stricker holds a 3–2 record in opening-round matches at Gstaad.
  • He has not defeated a Top 50 player since 2024.
  • Jaume Munar is 4–0 in opening-round matches at Gstaad.
  • He owns a 4–2 record against players outside the Top 100 in 2026.

Swiss Talent Seeks Momentum

Dominic Stricker suffered an injury towards the end of 2025 and returned to the tour earlier this season, but a lower back injury further disrupted his comeback and limited his schedule.

The Swiss has produced five ITF quarterfinal-or-better results this year, including two titles, but has been unable to carry that form into Challenger events, where he has suffered early exits in most tournaments.

This is his sixth appearance at his home event in Gstaad. He has cleared the opening-round hurdle in three of his previous five appearances and will be hoping home support helps revive his season.

Spaniard Builds on Wimbledon Confidence

Jaume Munar arrived at Wimbledon on a four-match losing streak, but turned things around by defeating Francisco Cerundolo and Jacob Fearnley in consecutive matches to reach the third round, matching his best result at the tournament.

The run came at the right time for the Spaniard, who had struggled for consistency since suffering an arm injury in Rotterdam earlier this season.

Munar has played 12 tour-level events this year and cleared the opening-round hurdle in seven of them, including four quarterfinal-or-better finishes.

He has played four previous editions in Gstaad and won his opening-round match on each occasion. Notably, he reached the quarterfinals in both 2022 and 2023.

Verdict

Rather than backing Stricker over the full match, the opening set markets offer the better value. Backing Stricker to cover the +1.5 games handicap in the first set and Stricker to win the first set are the selections that offer the most appeal.
