Faria Keeps Winning in Paris
Jaime Faria continued his impressive run at the French Open with straight-set wins over Denis Shapovalov and Jan-Lennard Struff to reach the third round. Including qualifying, he has now won five matches in Paris this week.
This is the best Grand Slam result of Faria's career. He had previously played two second-round matches at this level, losing both at the Australian Open in 2025 and 2026.
The Portuguese has put together a strong season, reaching seven quarterfinals or better. Six of those runs came on the Challenger Tour, with the other being a quarterfinal appearance in Rio de Janeiro earlier this year.
Those results have moved Faria close to a return to the Top 100 rankings, and he has added another valuable run with his performances in Paris.

Tiafoe Survives Hurkacz Marathon
Frances Tiafoe defeated Hubert Hurkacz in a five-set thriller, 6-7, 7-6, 6-4, 6-7, 6-4, to reach the third round at Roland Garros. Tiafoe had the chance to close out the match in four sets after leading 5-3 in the fourth, but was forced into a decider before eventually getting over the line.
The American will be pleased with the result after back-to-back early exits in Rome and Hamburg before arriving in Paris.
Tiafoe came close to making his Top 10 debut in the middle of 2025, but a disappointing second half of the season saw him slide down the rankings and come close to dropping out of the Top 30.
His results have been steadier this year, helping him return to the Top 20. With quarterfinal points to defend from last year's French Open, he will be hoping to put together another deep run this week.
Tiafoe holds an 8-8 record in Grand Slam third-round matches and has lost six of his last nine at this stage. At Roland Garros, he is 1-1 in third-round matches, losing to Alexander Zverev in 2023 before reaching the quarterfinals last year.
