De Jong Claims Biggest Win of His Career
Jesper de Jong advanced to the fourth round after defeating Karen Khachanov in five sets, 7-5, 5-7, 6-2, 6-7, 6-2. He had the chance to finish the match in four sets after leading 5-2 and holding two match points at 6-5 in the fourth, but was forced into a decider before finally getting the job done.
This is a breakthrough run for the 26-year-old, who entered the tournament as a lucky loser. He had never gone beyond the second round of a Grand Slam before and now stands one win away from a maiden major quarterfinal. The victory over Khachanov is also the biggest win of his career.
