Coming off such a massive confidence-boosting victory, he now faces Martin Landaluce, who appears physically vulnerable after surviving back-to-back five-set matches.

Cerundolo Continues His Hot Streak
Juan Manuel Cerundolo ended Jannik Sinner's 30-match winning streak with a 3-6, 2-6, 7-5, 6-1, 6-1 victory to reach the third round at the French Open. Cerundolo trailed by two sets, but Sinner's level dropped after struggling physically in the heat, allowing the Argentine to take full advantage and run away with the match.
This is the best result of Cerundolo's career at Grand Slam level. He had previously played two second-round matches at majors and lost both of them.
The Argentine produced some solid results during the South American clay swing earlier this year, reaching the semifinal in Rosario Challenger and the quarterfinals in Rio de Janeiro. However, his form dipped afterwards and he managed only three main-draw wins across his next eight tournaments.
He ended that run by winning the Bordeaux Challenger title last week and has carried that form into Paris, adding two more victories to his winning streak.

Another Milestone for Rising Spaniard
Martin Landaluce survived back-to-back five-set battles against Juan Carlos Prado Angelo and Vit Kopriva to reach the third round at Roland Garros. The Spaniard has spent more than eight hours on court across his first two matches.
This continues a breakthrough week for Landaluce in Paris. Before this tournament, he had played only one Grand Slam main draw, losing in straight sets at the Australian Open last year.
His breakthrough season has been building throughout 2026. Landaluce won only two matches across his first eight tournaments, but things started to change with a third-round run in Miami, where he recorded back-to-back tour-level wins for the first time.
He backed that up with a quarterfinal appearance in Rome a few weeks ago and has carried that form into Paris. Those results have moved him close to a Top 50 debut in the rankings.
