Tien Continues Clay Breakthrough
Learner Tien moved into the semifinals in Geneva after defeating compatriot Alex Michelsen 6-4, 3-6, 6-1. He dropped serve five times but converted all seven of his break-point chances during the match.
The run is particularly impressive for the 20-year-old considering his limited experience on clay. Before recent weeks, he had never recorded multiple wins at a tour-level clay event, but he has now achieved that in back-to-back tournaments after also reaching the fourth round in Rome.
Tien has already produced four quarterfinal-or-better results this season, including strong runs at the Australian Open and Indian Wells. Those performances helped him break into the top 20 rankings.
He now owns a 2-1 record in tour-level semifinals. His only defeat at this stage came earlier this year against Tommy Paul in Delray Beach.

Bublik Extends Geneva Revival
Alexander Bublik came from a set down to defeat Arthur Rinderknech 5-7, 6-4, 6-2 and reach the semifinals in Geneva. After dropping the opening set despite losing serve only once, he took control comfortably in the final two sets.
The Kazakh will feel relieved with this result after struggling badly in recent weeks. Before arriving in Geneva, he had failed to record multiple wins in six of his previous seven tournaments, with many of those defeats coming against lower-ranked opponents.
Bublik’s resurgence comes at an important stage of the season with a demanding schedule ahead over the next few weeks. A deep run in Geneva should provide a major confidence boost heading into the bigger clay events.

Verdict
