Nuno Borges produced a huge upset by defeating Andrey Rublev in straight sets to reach the fourth round in Cincinnati, 6-3, 6-4. He lost his serve once and converted three of the four break points he created during the match.
This is his sixth Round of 16 appearance at Masters level and his third in North America. However, he has lost all five of his previous matches at this stage, most recently in Montreal last week, and will be looking to finally break that barrier.
Earlier this year, he struggled for consistency and faced numerous early exits, but he has shown progress in recent months by reaching the semifinal in Mallorca, the quarterfinals in Bastad and the fourth round in Montreal.

Nakashima Survives Medvedev Thriller in Cincinnati
Brandon Nakashima registered a three-set comeback win over Daniil Medvedev to reach the fourth round in Cincinnati, 6-7, 7-6, 6-1. He trailed by a set and faced three match points in the second set before fighting back to win the match.
This is his second Round of 16 appearance in Cincinnati. He previously reached this stage in 2024 but lost to Andrey Rublev in straight sets. He will now be looking for a better result this week.
The American struggled to produce consistent results earlier this year and registered multiple main-draw wins only four times in his first 14 events.
However, since entering the North American swing, he has won 10 of his last 12 matches, reaching the semifinal in Washington and the final in Montreal. Those results helped him achieve a career-high ranking of No. 22 recently.
