The Roughnecks dug themselves into an early hole as they were beaten 31-6 by St Louis and 11-9 at Arlington.
They rallied to win 18-17 in Memphis, and then rebounded from a 23-16 loss to Birmingham was a 27-3 victory at San Antonio and a 21-20 win over Memphis.
Houston’s playoff hopes were ended after that though, as they were beaten 33-25 in Birmingham and 30-18 at home to Michigan.
The Roughnecks did avoid a third straight defeat however, as they upset playoff-bound DC last weekend, 24-21.

Michigan go into their final regular season game on the back of a loss, but having already secured their place in the postseason.
The Panthers opened with a 26-12 victory in Memphis, only to then suffer a 21-12 defeat when they hosted Birmingham.
They rebounded to beat San Antonio 26-23 and Memphis 27-9, but failed to make it three wins in a row as they were beaten 32-27 in St Louis.
Michigan responded to that loss with a three-game win streak that secured playoff football, following up a 38-14 win at home to DC with road wins over Arlington, 25-24, and Houston, 30-18.
The Panthers failed to make it four-in-a-row as they lost 26-22 at playoff opponents Birmingham last weekend.
Verdict
While this is a ‘dead rubber’ for Michigan, this game matters to a Houston team looking to avoid a losing season and sign off on a high.
