NFC South Predictions & Tips: Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Tampa Bay are the defending Super Bowl champions but their road to the Vince Lombardi Trophy did not include an NFC South title in 2020.
The Bucs finished a game behind the Saints in the division, but second place saw them into the postseason and the rest, as they say, is history.
Tampa dominated Kansas City in the Super Bowl thanks to a suffocating performance from the defense.
That unit will be just as strong in 2021 and QB Tom Brady is still surrounded by weapons on the offense.
The Buccaneers have returned the vast majority of the squad so it is no shock to see them being a leading contender to win it all this year.
They are clear favorites to end a 14-year wait to win the division and it is almost impossible to look past them in this market.
NFC South Predictions & Tips: New Orleans Saints
New Orleans have dominated the division in recent years, winning the division in each of the past four seasons.
They face a serious challenge in trying to make that five-in-row.
After a couple of injury-hit seasons Drew Brees has hung up his cleats and that means either Jameis Winston or Taysom Hill will start at QB.
It is more than safe to say that is a downgrade for the Saints, but they do still boast some talent on offense, namely Alvin Kamara and Michael Thomas.
Defensively they could have some problems after losing a bunch of key contributors.
Trey Hendrickson, Malcolm Brown, Sheldon Rankins, Kwon Alexander and Janoris Jenkins have all moved on.
Marshon Lattimore and Cameron Jordan are still in New Orleans, but right now it is tough to know what to expect from a Saints team that is starting to rebuild.
NFC South Predictions & Tips: Atlanta Falcons
Atlanta were nowhere in 2020 and we may not see much improvement in 2021 – if any!
They passed up on drafting a successor to quarterback Matt Ryan despite the wealth of talent available.
They also traded away Julio Jones and turned to journeyman running back Mike Davis – none of this instils confidence in the offense.
Defensively there are some promising talents but ultimately another losing season could be on the cards for the Falcons.
NFC South Predictions & Tips: Carolina Panthers
Carolina finished a game ahead of rock-bottom Atlanta in 2020 but the bookies believe they could switch positions in 2021.
It is understandable. Sam Darnold has been handed the keys to the offense after an underwhelming run in New York with the Jets.
He does have some decent receivers to throw to and in Christian McCaffrey he has an elite running back.
But beyond that the offensive line is cause for concern and the defense is not a unit that can win games when the offense struggles.
Another underwhelming season appears to be on the cards for the Panthers this season.
Verdict
New Orleans are entering a new era and both Atlanta and Carolina are a long way from competing.
This is Tampa’s division to lose and I do not see the Buccaneers failing to top the NFC West after 17 rounds of games.
