Los Angeles secured their place in the playoffs by putting together a 98-64 record – the best in all of Major League Baseball this season.
The Dodgers finished top of the National League West as a result of that record, five games clear of playoff opponents San Diego.
They ended the regular season on a good run of form too, winning nine of their final 11 games on the schedule.
Los Angeles rebounded from an 11-9 defeat in Miami with 8-4 and 20-4 wins, before returning home to sandwich a 6-3 defeat to Colorado with 6-4 and 6-5 wins.
The Dodgers then responded to a 4-2 loss to San Diego with 4-3 and 7-2 wins over the Padres, and took their win streak to five games with a three-game sweep of Colorado on the road.
Verdict
Los Angeles are a team in good form, but San Diego definitely offer appeal as an underdog.
