Aljamain Sterling is on a seven-fight win streak heading into this UFC 280 title fight.
Sterling has not lost since being knocked out in just 67 seconds by Marlon Moraes back in December 2017.
He rebounded in his next fight with a decision victory over Brett Johns, and then backed that up by submitting Cody Stamann.
‘The Funkmaster’ continued his win streak with decision wins against Jimmie Rivera and Pedro Munhoz, before earning a title shot in impressive fashion.
Sterling earned ‘Performance of the Night’ honors as he submitted Cory Sandhagen in just 88 seconds.
The 33-year-old American won the UFC bantamweight title in his next fight, albeit in less than favourable fashion.
He was awarded the title when Petr Yan was disqualified for using an illegal knee in the fourth round.
Sterling proved he could be Yan fair and square in the rematch though, earning split decision victory back in April of this year.
That victory took is career record to 21-3, with eight wins coming by submission and two by KO/TKO.
TJ Dillashaw Form
TJ Dillashaw is bidding to become a three-time bantamweight champion at UFC 280.
Dillashaw first won the belt back in May 2014, and he successfully defended it twice before losing by split decision to Dominick Cruz in January 2016.
He bounced back in his next fight to beat Raphael Assuncao, and then followed that up with a decision success against John Lineker.
That victory earned him a shot at then bantamweight champion Cody Garbrandt in November 2017, and Dillashaw took his chance.
The 36-year-old American knocked out Garbrandt in the second round to become a two-time champion, and in the rematch he dispatched the former champion inside a round.
Dillashaw then turned his attention to becoming a two-weight champion in January 2019, and it was around that time his career fell apart.
He lost to flyweight champion Henry Cejudo in just 32 seconds and it was later confirmed that he had failed pre and post-fight drugs tests.
The American was subsequently banned and stripped of his bantamweight tite.
Dillashaw made his comeback in July 2021 and made it a successful one, beating Cory Sanhagen by split decision.
That victory improved his career record to 17-4, with eight wins coming by KO/TKO and three by submission.
