Jon Jones vs Ciryl Gane Preview & Picks

Jon Jones is backed to win the UFC heavyweight title.

Jones has been out of action for three years, but there is a clear route to victory for him here.

Ciryl Gane’s biggest weakness is wrestling and ‘Bones’ is a vastly superior wrestler.

He is backed to follow Francis Ngannou’s blueprint and take Gane down at will for a points win.

  • Jon Jones has a 26-1, 1 NC professional record (loss was by DQ)
  • Jon Jones is 14-0, 1 NC in UFC title fights in his career
  • Gane stuffed just 1 of the 5 takedown attempts by Ngannou
  • Ciryl Gane lost his last world heavyweight title fight by decision

Jon Jones Form

Jon Jones boasts an almost flawless 26-1 (10 KOs, 6 Sub) record, with one fight being overturned to a No Contest.

He is a former two-time light-heavyweight champion and is considered by many to be the greatest fighter of all time.

However, issues away from the Octagon and failed drug tests have derailed his career over the last several years and he has not fought since February 2020.

Since having his win over Daniel Cormier in July 2017 overturned due to a failed drugs test ‘Bones’ has won four consecutive fights.

When he returned from that ban he stopped Alexander Gustafsson to regain the UFC light-heavyweight title.

Jones then successfully defended that title with a unanimous decision win against Anthony Smith, and followed that up with a split decision victory against Thiago Santos.

He made one more successful defence in February 2020, beating Dominick Reyes by unanimous decision in what would prove to be his final outing for three years.

Ciryl Gane Form

Ciryl Gane is a former heavyweight title challenger with a professional record of 11-1 (5 KOs, 3 Sub).

Gane debuted in the UFC with a 3-0 record and stormed up the rankings with a seven-fight win streak.

He submitted Raphael Pessoa and Don’Tale Mayes in his first two fights, and then recorded a decision win against Tanner Boser.

The 32-year-old Frenchman followed that up with the biggest win of his career as he knocked out former champion Junior Dos Santos in the second round.

Gane then bested Jairzinho Rozenstruik and Alexander Volkov by decision to earn himself a shot at the interim title.

‘Bon Gamin’ took his big chance, stopping Derrick Lewis with strikes in the third round to set up a meeting with Francis Ngannou for the title.

He had major issues with Ngannou’s wrestling in that fight though, dropping a decision after five rounds.

Gane did rebound last September though, knocking out Tai Tuivasa in the third round of the fight.
