Oregon at Ohio State Picks & Betting Tips

Ohio State can come out on top in this early-season battle of ranked teams.

The Buckeyes’ defense is likely to give up some points, but the offense can more than make up for that.

CJ Stroud grew into his first start and he has two of the best receivers in college football to throw too.

It is difficult to see Oregon keeping pace here. Ohio State can down the Ducks and cover too.

  • Ohio State beat Minnesota 45-31 in Week 1
  • Ohio State’s Week 1 win over Minnesota was a push (-14)
  • Ohio State are 62-5 straight up at home since 2011

  • Oregon are 0-1 against the spread this season
  • Oregon allowed 298 passing yards & 1 touchdown in Week 1

Head To Head

  • Ohio State lead the all-time series 9-0
  • Ohio State won 42-20 in the most recent meeting in January 2015

Oregon Form

Oregon made hard work of their season-opening victory at home to Fresno State.

The Ducks trailed midway through the fourth and needed an Anthony Brown TD run with little under three minutes remaining to win.

They ran the ball well as Brown, CJ Verdell and Travis Dye combined for 186 yards and three touchdowns.

QB Brown had 228 all-purpose yards on the day. He threw for 172 yards and a TD, with no interceptions.

Potential first-round draft pick Kayvon Thibodeaux suffered an ankle sprain in the win and is considered day-to-day here.

Ohio State Form

Ohio State overcame a lacklustre start in Minnesota to win their season-opening game.

The Buckeyes trailed 14-10 at the break, but CJ Stroud showed growth in the second half as they turned it around.

Stroud threw four touchdown passes, ranging from 38 yards to 70 yards, as Ohio State won 45-31.

Chris Olave led the receivers with 117 yards and two TDs. Garrett Wilson had 80 yards and a score, while TreVeyon Henderson’s sole catch was a 70-yard TD.

Miyan Williams rushed for 125 yards and a score on just nine carries for the Buckeyes.

Verdict

CJ Stroud has big shoes to fill succeeding Justin Fields, but he did grow into the Week 1 victory.

We should see more from Stroud here and he has the playmakers around him to help Ohio State cover a two-TD spread.
