North Carolina backed that up with a 72-65 win over Pittsburgh in the semi-finals, but they failed to clinch the conference tournament title as they suffered a shock 84-76 defeat to NC State in the final.
The Tar Heels bounced back in their first game of the national tournament though, blowing out Wagner in a 90-62 win.
Michigan State Form
Michigan State enter this game on the back of a win, but they are in bad form with five defeats in their last eight games.
The Spartans stumbled through the final few weeks of the regular season as they lost three straight and then failed to back up a 53-49 win over Northwestern.
They concluded the regular season with a 65-64 defeat to Indiana, but did begin the Big Ten tournament with a 77-67 win over Minnesota.
Michigan State were paired with Purdue in the next round however, and it was no surprise when they bowed out, losing 67-62.
The Spartans did get off to a solid start in March Madness though, beating Mississippi State 69-51 in the first round.
Verdict
North Carolina are in good form and have been a solid spread bet in March in recent seasons.
The Tar Heels are the better team too, so we expect them to back up their win over Wagner with another victory and cover in round two.
