Tennessee were beaten 85-81 by Kentucky in their regular season finale, and then lost 73-56 to Mississippi State in the conference tournament.
The Volunteers stopped the rot in the first round of the national tournament however, blowing out Saint Peter’s in an 83-49 victory.

Texas enter this matchup on the back of a win, but in inconsistent form having gone 7-7 in their last 14 games.
The Longhorns got off to a fast start as they won 11 of their first 13 games, but they cooled off after the New Year.
They won six and lost six of their final 12 games of the regular season, losing six of their seven meetings with ranked teams in that time.
Texas then made only a brief appearance at the Big 12 conference tournament, losing 78-74 to Kansas State in their first outing.
The Longhorns rebounded in the first round of March Madness though, downing Colorado State 56-44.

Tennessee’s recent form has been far from flawless, but they have been a reliable spread bet.
