Pellegrino Claims Maiden Masters Victory
Andrea Pellegrino came from a set down to defeat Luca Nardi 4-6, 6-3, 6-3 and move into the second round in Rome. It was his third victory of the week after qualifying wins over Hugo Gaston and Martin Landaluce.
This marked Pellegrino’s first-ever win at Masters level. Before this week, he had made six appearances at Masters events and failed to progress beyond qualifying, including in Madrid and Monte Carlo earlier this season.
The Italian will be especially pleased with the result considering the fitness problems he dealt with recently. He retired during qualifying in both Marrakech and Monte Carlo a few weeks ago.
The 29-year-old has also struggled for consistency this season. Apart from a quarterfinal run in Santiago, the best tour-level result of his career, his other tour appearances ended in qualifying or opening-round exits. He also reached two Challenger quarterfinals this year.

Fils Carrying Strong Momentum Forward
Arthur Fils has continued to impress since returning from injury, consistently producing deep runs and exceeding expectations. His strong performances have helped him climb back inside the top 20 rankings.
The 21-year-old began his season only in February but has already played seven tournaments. He reached at least the quarterfinals in six of them, including semifinal runs in Miami and Madrid along with a quarterfinal appearance in Cincinnati.
Fils has played three Masters events this season and either matched or achieved his best result at each tournament. He now looks to continue that trend in Rome.
This is his fourth appearance at the Italian Open. He has cleared the opening round in two of his previous three visits, most recently reaching the fourth round in 2025.
