Charles Schwab Challenge Preview & Picks - Best PGA Tour Picks
- Charles Schwab Challenge takes place between May 26-29
- The tournament takes place at the Colonial Country Club, Forth Worth, Texas
- Our 4 selections who can win the title
After a tough test at the PGA Championship last weekend, the star-studded field of the world's best golfers heads to Texas for the next round of the PGA Tour. Who will be crowned the champion of the Charles Schwab Challenge come Sunday?
Jason Kokrak will be back to defend his title after his triumph in 2021.
Past and present Major winners who will tee on Thursday include Justin Thomas, Scottie Scheffler, Jordan Spieth, Collin Morikawa, Webb Simpson, Justin Rose, Patrick Reed, Stewart Cink, Lucas Glover, Bryson Dechambeau and Gary Woodland.
These are our selections that could win the title this weekend.
Scottie Scheffler
Like many of the big-name contenders who graced the greens of Southern Hills, Scottie Scheffler battled with the conditions and missed the cut at the PGA Championship, his first in 15 tournament starts.
The 25-year-old American's achievements have been outstanding this year, winning the Phoenix Open, the Arnold Palmer Invitational, the WGC Dell Technologies Match Play and the Masters.
The world's number once ranked golfer also placed T20 at the Farmers Insurance Open, T7 at the Genesis Invitational and T15 at the AT&T at the Byron Nelson.
He was played once at the Charles Schwab Challenge, missing the cut last year.
Scheffler will be looking to bounce back to his best when he takes to the greens of the Colonial Country Club this weekend.
Justin Thomas
Justin Thomas was seven strokes back going into the final round of the PGA Championship last weekend and finished tied for the lead with Will Zalatoris, as other challengers lost their way in the closing holes.
A playoff ensued, and Thomas emerged the victor to claim the second Major title and Wanamaker trophy of his career.
The 29-year-old's other results have been excellent this year. He finished T5 at the Tournament of Champions, T20 at the Farmers Insurance Open, T8 at the Phoenix Open, 6th at the Genesis Invitational, T33 at Players Championship, T3 at the Valspar Championship, T35 at the WGC Dell Technologies Match Play, T8 at the Masters, T35 at the RGC Heritage and T5 at the AT&T Byron Nelson.
The world's number five ranked golfer has played at this tournament twice, placing T10 in 2020 and T40 last year.
Thomas has the form to win back-to-back titles on the PGA Tour. Can he do it?
Will Zalatoris
Will Zalatoris succumbed to his second playoff loss of the season when Justin Thomas edged him for the PGA Championship last weekend.
Before that, the American placed T6 at the American Express and was runner-up at the Farmers Insurance Open after losing in a playoff.
He then finished T26 at the Genesis Invitational, T38 at the Arnold Palmer Invitational, T26 at the Players Championship, T5 at the WGC Dell Technologies Match Play and T6 at the Masters. His only blemish was when he missed the cut at the AT&T Byron Nelson.
The 14tth world-ranked golfer made his debut at the Charles Schwab Challenge last year, finishing T59 overall.
Zalatoris has gone close twice to winning his maiden PGA Tour title of his career, and he can feature prominently in Texas.
Max Homa
Max Homa tasted victory on the PGA Tour this year when he won the Wells Fargo Championship at the beginning of May.
He followed that up with a credible T13 place at the PGA Championship last weekend.
The American has played well throughout the year, finishing T15 at the Tournament of Champions, T14 at the Phoenix Open, T10 at the Genesis Invitational, T17 at the Arnold Palmer Invitational, T13 at the Players Championship, T35 at the WGC Dell Technologies and T48 at the Masters.
The 31-year-old golfer has played at this event three times, missing the cut twice and placing T27 in 2020.
However, Homa has been in excellent form and will be looking to win for the second time this year.
Verdict
Scheffler can bounce back to his best and register another victory come Sunday.
Thomas has the form to win back-to-back PGA tour titles.
Zalatoris has been so close to winning this year and can challenge for the trophy this weekend.
Homa has claims for this second title of the year and is the long-shot value bet in Texas.
