Pablo Llamas Ruiz continued his breakthrough run in Rome after surviving Corentin Moutet 6-4, 3-6, 7-6 to reach the third round. He twice trailed by a break in the deciding set before completing another comeback victory.
This was his fourth three-set win of the week, including the qualifying rounds. Before arriving in Rome, Llamas Ruiz had never defeated a top-50 player, but he has now earned back-to-back wins over players in that ranking range, including Ethan Quinn in the opening round.
The Spaniard started the season outside the top 200 rankings but steadily improved through strong Challenger results, recording five quarterfinal-or-better finishes. Combined with his impressive Rome campaign, he is now closing in on the top 120.

Medvedev Advances After Machac Withdrawal
Daniil Medvedev received a free pass into the third round in Rome after Tomas Machac withdrew because of illness. The Russian is now one win away from reaching the round of 16 in Rome for the fourth consecutive year.
Last month, Medvedev suffered one of the toughest defeats of his career against Matteo Berrettini in Monte Carlo. However, he responded positively by reaching the fourth round in Madrid the following week.
The Russian is now aiming to stabilize his place inside the top 10 after losing that status around the same period last year. Earlier this season, he reached three finals, winning titles in Dubai and Brisbane while also making the fourth round at the Australian Open.
Medvedev owns a strong 9-3 record in third-round matches at clay Masters events. Three of those victories came in Rome, including during his title-winning campaign in 2023.
