Tirante Continues Breakthrough Rome Run
Thiago Agustin Tirante stunned the in-form Flavio Cobolli 6-3, 6-4 to reach the fourth round in Rome. He won 88 percent of his first-serve points and converted three of the six break points he created during the match.
This marks the first time in Tirante’s career that he has recorded back-to-back wins over top-20 opponents in the same tournament after defeating Cameron Norrie in the previous round.
The 25-year-old Argentine has been producing some of the best tennis of his career in recent months. He reached the semifinals in Houston after beating Ben Shelton and also made the third round in Madrid with a victory over Tommy Paul.
Those results, combined with a quarterfinal run in Rio de Janeiro, have pushed him close to a top-50 debut in the rankings next week. He now owns a 3-6 record in round-of-16 matches on tour.

Medvedev Keeps Rome Campaign Alive
Daniil Medvedev advanced to the fourth round in Rome after coming from a set down to defeat Pablo Llamas Ruiz 3-6, 6-4, 6-2. His path this week has been relatively comfortable after receiving a first-round bye and a walkover from Tomas Machac before facing an opponent ranked outside the top 100.
This marks Medvedev’s fourth consecutive appearance in the round of 16 in Rome. Apart from his title-winning campaign in 2023, he lost at this stage in the following two years against Tommy Paul and Lorenzo Musetti.
The Russian struggled for consistency last season but rediscovered his level earlier this year with much stronger results. He reached three finals, winning titles in Dubai and Brisbane while also making the fourth round at the Australian Open, which pushed him back inside the top 10.
Medvedev is now aiming to stabilize his place among the elite again. However, he enters this clash with a modest 5-7 record in round-of-16 matches at clay Masters events and including losing four of his last five at this stage.
