Machac Stuns Tsitsipas In Rome
Tomas Machac moved into the second round in Rome after defeating Stefanos Tsitsipas 6-4, 7-6. He fired eight aces and saved three of the five break points he faced during the match.
This was Machac’s second career win in Rome. Last year, he made his main draw debut and defeated Learner Tien before losing to Tommy Paul in three sets.
The Czech started the season strongly by winning the Adelaide title and reaching the third round at the Australian Open. However, his progress slowed after suffering an injury in Montpellier.
In recent weeks, though, Machac has shown encouraging signs again. He reached the third round in Monte Carlo and the quarterfinals in Barcelona, building momentum heading into Rome.

Medvedev Targets Strong Madrid Campaign
Daniil Medvedev responded well after suffering one of the toughest defeats of his career against Matteo Berrettini in Monte Carlo. He bounced back by reaching the fourth round in Madrid before losing to Flavio Cobolli in three sets.
The Russian endured an inconsistent 2025 season, but he has rediscovered form this year. He reached three finals, winning titles in Dubai and Brisbane, while also making the fourth round at the Australian Open.
Those results helped Medvedev return to the top 10 rankings. Last year, he played four clay tournaments and won at least two matches in three of them, a level he now hopes to maintain this season.
This is his seventh appearance at the Madrid Open. After three straight opening-round exits between 2018 and 2021, he has reached at least the fourth round in each of his last three appearances.
