DC Defenders at San Antonio Brahmas Preview & Picks

DC are tipped to cover as they kick off the season with a win.

The Defenders dominated the XFL until they tripped up in the Championship Game, and they are back with another strong roster in 2024.

  • DC Defenders went 9-1 in the 2023 regular season
  • DC Defenders went 7-3-0 ATS regular season games in 2023
  • San Antonio Brahmas went 3-7 during the 2023 regular season
  • The Over cashed in 9 of DC’s 10 regular season games in 2023

Head To Head

  • DC Defenders lead the all-time series 1-0
  • DC Defenders won 29-28 when the two teams last met in April 2023

DC Defenders Form

DC dominated the XFL for 11 weeks in 2023, only to come up short in the Championship Game.

The Defenders opened the campaign by winning six consecutive games, sweeping St Louis and beating Houston during that run.

Their streak was ended in shocking fashion by a 37-36 defeat to previously winless Orlando, but they responded to that setback by winning their final three games.

DC beat Seattle 34-33 during that run to complete a sweep of the Sea Dragons, and when the two teams met again in the North Division Final they dominated in a 37-21 win.

That set up an XFL Championship showdown with an Arlington team they were expected to beat, but the Defenders suffered their second defeat of the season as they were beaten 35-26.

San Antonio Brahmas Form

San Antonio missed out on the 2023 XFL playoffs as they went 3-7, but they have undergone some major changes.

The Brahmas have replaced Hines Ward with veteran head coach Wade Phillips, who led Houston to the South Division title and final a year ago.

Phillips brings with him a large chunk of the coaching staff that supported him at the Roughnecks.

San Antonio have also brought in a bunch of players who played a major role in Houston’s run to the final four, as well as one of the XFL’s standout tight ends in Cody Latimer.

The Brahmas should be much improved in 2024, but can they really make a statement by knocking off DC on opening weekend?

Verdict

San Antonio have undoubtedly improved their coaching and roster considerably from 2023.

However, DC are set to be a major player in the UFL’s debut season and we expect them to get off to a solid start.
