Iowa vs Tennessee Preview & Picks

Tennessee are tipped to cover as they win the Citrus Bowl.

Iowa have offered little on offense all season long so it is unlikely that the Volunteers will need many scores to take this.

  • Tennessee are 5-1-0 ATS in their last 6 wins
  • Iowa are 2-4-0 ATS in their last 6 games
  • Iowa failed to score a point in their previous 2 games against ranked teams
  • The Under has cashed in 11 of Iowa’s previous 13 games

Head To Head

  • Tennessee lead the all-time series 2-1
  • Tennessee won 45-28 when the two teams last met in January 2015

Iowa Form

Iowa go into the Citrus Bowl having recorded a 10-3 regular season record that featured a loss in the Big Ten Championship Game.

The Hawkeyes won six of their first seven games of the season, with their only defeat coming when they were beaten 31-0 by #7 Penn State in late September.

They responded to that loss with three straight wins, but that run was halted by a 12-10 defeat to Minnesota.

Iowa rebounded to take their next four games, earning themselves a meeting with #2 Michigan for the conference championship.

However, the Hawkeyes once again failed to put a point on the board as they lost to a ranked opponent, with the Wolverines running out 26-0 winners.

Tennessee Form

Tennessee come into this game having compiled an 8-4 regular season record that saw three of their four losses come against ranked teams.

The Volunteers suffered an early setback as they were beaten 29-16 at unranked Florida, but the rebounded to win their next three games to improve to 5-2.

However, that run was ended by a 34-20 defeat at #11 Alabama, and after a couple of losses to ranked teams they were beaten 36-7 at #16 Missouri.

That became back-to-back defeats for Tennessee as they were beaten 38-10 by #1 Georgia a week later.

The Volunteers did wrap up their schedule on a positive note though, beating Vanderbilt 48-24.

Verdict

Tennessee’s record against ranked teams is rough, but Iowa did not manage a single point against a ranked team.

The Hawkeyes offense was impotent all season long, so we could see the Volunteers cover without having to put up too many points.
