Oregon State Form

Oregon State ended the regular season with back-to-back defeats to finish with an 8-4 record.

The Beavers faced no less than five ranked teams during the campaign, winning two of those games and losing the other three.

Their first defeat to a ranked team came on September 23 when they lost 38-35 at #21 Washington State, but they rebounded a week later to upset #10 Utah, 21-7, at home.

A couple of weeks later Oregon State backed up that victory by getting the better of #18 UCLA, 36-24.

However, that proved to be the final time that the Beavers beat a fellow ranked team in the regular season.

Last month they lost 22-20 to Washington, and on rivalry weekend they were beaten 31-7 by #6 Oregon on the road.

Notre Dame Form

Notre Dame suffered some costly defeats that ended their playoff hopes, ending the season with a 9-3 record.

The Fighting Irish won their first four games, but passed up on the chance to make an impression on the committee when they blew a late lead to lose 17-14 at home to #6 Ohio State.

That was the start of a run of four consecutive games against ranked teams which brought mixed results.

Notre Dame rebounded from the loss to the Buckeyes with a 21-14 win at #17 Duke, only to then lose 33-20 at #25 Louisville a week later.

The Fighting Irish again responded quickly, beating #10 USC 48-20, but a couple of weeks later they suffered their worst defeat of the season, losing 31-23 to unranked Clemson.

They did at least wrap up their schedule on a positive not though, blowing out Wake Forest 45-7 before beating Stanford on the road, 56-23.

Verdict

Sam Hartman’s status is up in the air, but we do know Oregon State will have a new head coach and quarterback.

That is a huge amount of change to undergo less than a month before this game, so we like the chances of Notre Dame winning convincingly.
