Liberty vs Oregon Preview & Picks

Oregon are tipped to cover a large spread as the win the Fiesta Bowl.

There are question marks surrounding whether or not Bo Nix plays, but if he does this offense is likely to set a blistering scoring pace that is too much for Liberty.

  • Oregon are 9-4-0 ATS in their 13 games
  • Oregon have only lost to #3 Washington this season
  • 7 of Oregon’s last 9 wins have been by 18 points or more
  • The Over has cashed in 6 of Liberty’s last 7 games

Head To Head

  • This is the first meeting between the two teams

Liberty Form

Liberty went unbeaten through the 2023 regular season, winning all 13 of their games, including the Conference USA Championship Game.

The Flames swept aside MAC and CUSA opposition through their first nine games and that was enough to earn them top-25 consideration.

From there they beat Old Dominion 38-10 and Massachusetts 49-25 at home, before heading to UTEP and winning 42-28 in their regular season finale.

That set up a meeting with New Mexico State for the conference crown, and Liberty ran out winners in that too.

The Flames put up 14 unanswered points in the fourth quarter to secure a 49-35 victory.

Oregon Form

Oregon head into the Fiesta Bowl looking to bounce back from a costly defeat that ended their College Football Playoffs bid.

The Ducks opened the season with five straight victories, including a 42-6 blowout of Colorado that halted the Buffaloes hype train.

They failed to make it to 6-0, as they suffered a 36-33 defeat at #7 Washington in a huge Pac-12 game in mid-October.

Oregon responded by winning their next six games, including a 35-6 victory at #13 Utah and a 31-7 blowout of #15 Oregon State, and that set up a rematch with Washington in the Pac-12 Championship Game.

The Ducks once again dropped a close one with the Huskies though, this time falling to a 34-31 defeat.

Verdict

Oregon are clearly the better team – they were only beaten by a playoff calibre team this season.

They should have far too much for Liberty here, and the winning margin could be even bigger if Bo Nix opts to play.
